More About Kathryn
Hi! I’m Kathryn.
As a nontraditional student, I was the only person in my town applying to medical school. I also had a baby a few months before my MCAT date, so I did most of my studying with a newborn on my chest. Without support from classmates or friends, preparing for the MCAT felt lonely and confusing, but with MCAT Self Prep, I finally found a roadmap. Having one source walk me through a diagnostic test, goal setting, and content scheduling was invaluable.
With my roadmap in hand, the massive amount of content on the MCAT seemed less overwhelming. The eCourse kept me on track and made sure I didn’t skip anything. I could dedicate more time to the sections that were confusing for me and listened to the videos during my commute. Being forced (okay, encouraged) to take mini practice exams from the very beginning of my preparation was a key step. Knowing the content is only half of the MCAT battle! Being able to digest passages and reason through questions is just as important as knowing the right answers.
After being accepted to multiple medical schools, a family situation surfaced that required me to defer for a year. I decided to commit to the University of Utah, and deferred that acceptance until the Fall of 2022. Talk to me if you have worries about similarly complicated timelines! Outside of work and parenting, I dance classical ballet and mourn the loss of my preteen flexibility. Now that I live by the mountains, I’m a big fan of hiking, skiing, and rock climbing.
When we work together, I will help you prepare a study plan that sets you up for success, work through the parts that trip you up, and support you through the inevitable anxiety and burnout. I can’t wait to help you reach your highest potential on this monster test. The MCAT is designed to test your nerves and knowledge, so let’s show those admissions committees just how confident and capable you are!
Very best,
Kathryn

Alex
“After logging into the AAMC portal to check my MCAT score following my first attempt in 2021, I was heartbroken by what I saw on the page. A 122 in CARS would surely sink my chances of getting into the med school of my dreams. I spent the next year having developed an intense aversion to this exam and couldn’t fathom the idea of having to retake it. After earnestly taking some time to reflect on my goals, I mustered the courage to tackle this beast of a test once again. However, as I started studying, something didn’t feel right. My science sections were improving, but my daily CARS practice scores had not budged no matter how much I practiced. Once again, I had that sinking feeling in my gut that improvement in CARS was hopeless for me. At this point, I realized that I couldn’t go through this process alone anymore.
Thankfully, it wasn’t long before I stumbled upon MCAT Self Prep. After receiving a personal suggestion recommending Kathryn’s tutoring services, I had a strong feeling that she would be an excellent match for my particular situation. From the first meeting, I could tell that Kathryn had a wealth of experience tutoring students who had historically struggled with CARS, and I believe that was the key to tailoring a program that would lead to my success. It’s one thing to have done well on CARS yourself, and it’s another to have a proven track record of effectively transmitting this knowledge and skill to someone else. Kathryn was able to pinpoint my weaknesses and drill them to the point where I started to see massive improvements in my score. In addition to providing me with a personalized approach to success, Kathryn was able to restore my broken confidence, which I had thought was irreparable. After 2.5 months and 10 lessons of hard work, I actually felt ready to take on this test again.
When score release day came around this time, I was confident that I had made the necessary improvements to see substantial growth in my score. Sure enough, I was able to achieve a 514 with a 126 in CARS!!! I was shocked to see that I had been able to improve my CARS score by 4 points, moving from the 20th percentile to the 76th percentile, with a 90th percentile MCAT score overall!!! Of course, this score came with a lot of sacrifice and my own hard work. However, I don’t believe it would have been possible without Kathryn’s guidance along the way. To anyone retaking the MCAT or chronically struggling with CARS, I cannot recommend Kathryn’s services enough. 5/5 stars!!!”

“The most important thing that Kathryn helped me with was my confidence. I had talked to other prep companies and tutors and they told me that my goals were not realistic. Kathryn was able to give me hope that I could improve after a difficult MCAT score. She was able to break down my study schedule and cater it to my unique needs. She also helped my focus on key areas with the limited time I had. Kathryn gave me a good balance of challenging me, but also making sure I was doing everything on my own will.”
Caroline
“Kathryn was always so prepared for our sessions! Even if I didn’t know what I needed to work on or help with at the moment, she always had something in her pocket that I hadn’t thought of. I never felt like my time was wasted. I always felt like I had a plan to move forward after each session. I knew it would be hard, but I knew what I needed to do. With preparing for the MCAT, I never questioned what I needed to do. Kathryn has been personable and considerate in all of our sessions. She explains things clearly and succinctly. Her knowledge of the MCAT is strong and I always felt confident in the explanations she gave me. I would recommend working with Kathryn to anyone looking to up their MCAT score. I can’t describe how invaluable working with her has been.”
Beckey
“Working with Kathryn I was able to score a 515 on my second try, a 10+ point increase from my first try! She really helped me get on track by providing me with guidance in setting a very detailed schedule of how to spend each day studying. Specifically, I had the most support in CARS. Having a tutor helped me feel confident that I was working effectively toward a high score. The responses were quick, scheduling was flexible, and the virtual platform worked great.”
Rebecca
“Kathryn is the MCAT holy grail. Not only is she an incredible tutor, but she is extremely kind and caring. She has an amazing way of assuring and assisting you during a time that is already so stressful. I always leave each session feeling relieved about my game plan for the week because of her help. She is always prepared and on time, and is able to focus in on what my weaknesses are in order to customize each session. She runs our Zoom sessions in a way that I know the quality is not affected by it being online. Kathryn has been a huge support through this entire process, and is the reason for my success. If you are questioning on whether or not to get a tutor, don’t hesitate to speak with Kathryn. If you want someone who is kind, and helps you to identify successful tools to increase your score, she is the one!”
Macy
“Kathryn has been a blessing! She has totally changed my approach. I have only been working with her for a small amount of time and I already see improvements!! She is very encouraging and I can tell she puts a lot of effort in. I feel ten times more confident about the MCAT and would recommend her to anyone!”
Weston
“Kathryn was the best tutor I’ve ever had. She really knows the MCAT inside and out. She explains strategies simply and effectively in any section. They enabled me to see the MCAT in a completely different light. Kathryn would prep before the session, so she was always ready to begin and use our time to the fullest. Additionally she did work after the session too, so I had clear direction on what to do. My sessions were completely tailored to me and she felt like my teammate always encouraging and helpful. She helped me really up my score. I would recommend her to anyone that wants to do great on the MCAT!”
Rebekah
“I can personally vouch for Kathryn’s patience, tenacity and intelligence. She encourages me to be diligent and do my best work. I actually understand the reasoning behind the test questions now, and I’m not constantly second-guessing myself. 5 out of 5 Stars.”
Claire
“Chemistry has always been really hard for me to understand, especially with online learning. Kathryn matched my need for visual explanations and made sure that I didn’t just get the right answer, but that I really understood why that answer was right, and why the other answers were wrong. I actually feel confident about reactions and experiments now!”
Deanna
“What I liked most about Kathryn was that I felt she understood how I was feeling about the MCAT, resorting to tutoring, and how to best tutor someone with my personality. I was very hesitant about receiving tutoring for the MCAT, but I’m so glad I chose Kathryn. She has such a calm and patient demeanor, and given how stressed I was from studying, it certainly helped relieve some of my stress. She put in the extra time to help me with ALL of my practice questions (and I had many). I saw my score improve from a 507 to a 515 in a few weeks. Keep in mind, this was only having worked with Kathryn for a mere month. She provided me the skills and encouragement I needed to continue studying and to improve my score, and of course, we had a good few laughs in between :). Moreover, she helped me with my primary and secondary medical school applications—her writing skills are impeccable and I probably improved my writing skills more during my time being tutored by her, than I did in during my college English courses. I hope you’ll consider her as your tutor!!!”
Steff
“Kathryn provided me with a really unique way of both reading and approaching questions. I really appreciated how quick she was to respond to questions or just give a pep talk between tutoring sessions. CARS was a major area of weakness for me, as well as picking between the last two answers, and Kathryn was able to break it down for me, and provide me with a game plan on how to attack both of these issues. She really showed me how to approach tricky questions and decide between two. I really liked how we would start each session with specific questions I had, and then we would work through some passages together, something I found really valuable. I also found as I was going through full length’s I could often hear her asking those guiding questions which ended up really helping me!”
Cassie
“Kathryn was a godsend when I was preparing to retake the MCAT. It was my third try and I felt so discouraged by my previous scores. It was my Achilles heel in my dream of becoming a doctor. Having a friend to study with changed the game. She helped me practice effectively instead of just drilling the same knowledge over again for a third time. My biggest improvement was on the CARS section. I actually found myself looking forward to CARS practice once I learned how to be curious about the passages and analyze all of the answer choices. On that third try, I improved my score from a 498 to a 510!”
Paula
“Her advice to pretend like it was a friend asking me the questions instead of a test really helped my anxiety, and I felt like I could hear her voice in my head in the testing center. It was less stressful to explain “to her” why I was picking my answers and I didn’t feel like I was second guessing myself. ”
Joe
“After working with Kathryn, the concepts that were my biggest struggles are now the ones that I know inside and out. She was really patient with me and I felt like I could ask any question, any number of times. We have a lot of fun while studying too, so I don’t dread it.”
