If you are reading this blog post, you are likely in one of two boats: 1) You have signed up for MCAT Self Prep (yay!) but are not sure where to start, or 2) You are deciding on which MCAT prep course/resources to use and are considering MCAT Self Prep as an option. Whatever stage you are at in your MCAT prep journey, this blog post will help you determine the most valuable resources and aspects of MCAT Self Prep to maximize your success come test day!
1. Course Content Videos
The course content video playlists can be found in each respective lesson of our FREE MCAT Self Prep ECourse. They have been curated from the top MCAT prep resources in order to provide you with all of the information and explanation you need to understand all of that MCAT content. This includes a focus on Khan Academy videos, the only resource ever officially endorsed by the AAMC (who writes each MCAT exam). These are absolutely ESSENTIAL to your success, and they are all included in our Free Forever plan!
2. Create Your Own Study Plan Course
One step up from having access to our free ECourse content videos is the Create-Your-Own Study Plan course, which you can access with the Basic Pro Plan (and any other pro plan). This course and its corresponding resources are absolutely necessary to maximize your time management, score tracking, and goal setting during your MCAT studying. Through this course, you have access to a detailed video series walking you through how to best use the study plan spreadsheet as well as tools to make organizing and executing your individualized study plan a breeze. If you are unsure of where to start, you can always reach out for tutoring with one of our incredible tutors who will walk you through setting up that study plan as well as support you throughout your MCAT prep! This course can also be a time-saver, since it can see how close you are to your goal score in a section and recommend which videos or other resources to use to reach that goal!
3. End of Lesson Quizzes
If you want to really get the most out of MCAT Self Prep and your own MCAT studying, our end of lesson quizzes are an amazing way to test your content knowledge after every lesson. Think of these as a temperature check on what you just learned and live feedback on how you are retaining and applying information! With the Free Forever plan, you have access to three of these questions at the end of each lesson, but with Advanced Pro, you will have access to all of the over 2,500 end-of-lesson quiz questions!
4. Flashcard Sets
Another amazing perk of the Advanced Pro plan is access to over 5,300 flashcards that coincide with each of the ECourse lessons. These flashcards are invaluable to provide a base on which you can add your own flashcards through your studying. On a personal note, I had a very limited study schedule (only 8 weeks, yikes), so the flashcard sets were perfect for me to review content on the go, and were comprehensive enough that I did not add many myself. Making all of those flashcards would have taken me way more time than I had available. I hope they are as helpful to you as they were for me!
5. Memorization and Strategy Courses
Lastly, I want to touch on some aspects of MCAT Self Prep that may not be essential for everyone, but could earn a few extra points on the MCAT for students. In addition to our free ECourse, MCAT Self Prep has several memorization courses: High-Speed Math Mastery Course, Metabolic Pathways Mastery Course, 100 Most Essential Equations Mastery Course, Behavioral Science Booster Course, 10 Most Commonly Missed Concepts Course, and Amino Acids Mastery Course. These courses focus on building specific skills and content knowledge that you may be struggling with, which is why I say that may be essential for some but not all. Our strategy courses for CARS and Science Passages are similar in that they offer content-specific support and reading strategies that you may be looking for! They are all included in our Deluxe Pro plan, or students can choose to purchase specific memorization or strategy courses that appeal to them. To check out all of our options, go to the ECourse and scroll past “MCAT Bootcamp”!
As someone who used MCAT Self Prep myself to study for the MCAT and then joined our team as a tutor, I cannot vouch for various elements of our program enough! I have worked with tons of students with a range of plans from Basic Pro to Deluxe, and a range of obstacles and goal scores. Everyone finds value in their plan and always has the option to upgrade their plan and tailor their use of these materials to their individual needs. That being said, I have heard from students that having access to the flashcards, end of lesson quizzes, and (for some) the memorization courses that are part of the Advanced and Deluxe Pro Plans were pivotal to their success because of how their learning and retention was supported by these resources. However you choose to utilize MCAT Self Prep in your study journey, I hope this overview of our most essential resources will help you decide what is best for you!
