More About Theo
I’m a medical student at UCLA and scored a perfect 528 on the MCAT!I hope you can use my success to improve your score too! I finished with my degree in neuroscience summa cum laude and I loved my time in undergrad. I love skiing, backpacking, and rock climbing in my spare time. Just because you’re pre-med doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! Recently, I’ve started running ultramarathons and I hope to run the John Muir Trail in California next summer.
I started my MCAT journey completely lost. I didn’t know how to study on my own until I found MCAT Self Prep. I was able to customize my study trajectory to ultimately achieve a perfect 528 score on the MCAT. Now, I am so excited to give back to students and teach YOU what I learned! The most important way a tutor can boost your score is by showing you how the AAMC thinks. After hundreds of hours researching MCAT logic, I can confidently give my students key testing strategies that work. I focus on giving all my students high-yield, AAMC-specific test taking strategies. These strategies will simplify the complexity of the MCAT and improve your understanding of how the AAMC justifies correct answers. I’ve helped almost a hundred of students increase their score many points, even for students re-taking the MCAT! I’ll be able to walk you through how I studied and the strategies that I used for CARS, science passages, and tackling tricky discrete questions. I’ve been a teaching assistant for general and organic chemistry for multiple years. I’ve won multiple awards for my ability to personalize my teaching with clarity. So more than the strategies, I hope to help you understand the MCAT so you can walk into the test with the mindset that you need in order to succeed. I’ve now tutored over 100 students. Read about their experience below!
I hope to also help you on your journey to medical school, from getting research experience to crafting your narrative with volunteering. With previous research, I have published five papers (three of them as the first author), presented at multiple conferences, and won awards for those presentations. I’ve also won national awards for my research, volunteering, and academic merit. I additionally spent countless hours trying to understand what medical school admissions committees want! This helped me interview at many top medical schools and ultimately get accepted at schools including Harvard, Harvard+MIT, Penn, Columbia, WashU, and my dream school—UCLA!! What’s even more important is that I’ve now helped students get accepted at top programs (even without 100th percentile scores). I want to pass this deeper understanding of the admissions process on to you too!
The last thing that you need to know about me is that I am passionate about mental health. My dad lives with bipolarity and it has been very formative as I’ve become older. I feel obligated to speak up about mental illness because so few people do and it has lead to some incredible opportunities. At 17, I delivered a TEDx talk about my experiences with my dad and through that, I started speaking for mental health organizations all around the country. So if you find yourself struggling with your mental health while studying for the MCAT, don’t hesitate to reach out.

He would answer any questions I had no matter how long and tedious they were, and reassured me when I started spiraling into a negative headspace. I remember taking FL-2 and scoring a 123 in the CARS section after hours and hours of prep. Theo refused to let me fall into a negative loop and encouraged me to see where I went wrong and how to avoid the same mistakes I made on that section. I am ecstatic to say that my CARS score jumped 6 points to a 129 on FL-4 and I made a 129 on my actual MCAT. To whoever is reading this, please do not give up on yourself and your abilities. When I felt like I wasn’t capable, Theo always encouraged me and made me feel like I was making progress. Honestly a huge part about studying efficiently is your mindset and thinking positively, and he helped me cultivate that! I highly recommend him, he’s an easy person to talk and will provide you with the resources and support you need.”

“Working with Theo to study for my MCAT exam has been such a wonderful experience. He is a tutor who truly shows you and explains how to approach the passage, how to dissect it to understand it better and understand what the questions are asking. This is something a lot of tutors DO NOT do.
Often times I take so long reading the passages or choosing an answer, but he has always been so understanding and patient with me. I have never felt like he was judging me for not knowing an answer or concept, which I really appreciated. One of Theo’s best attributes is his selfless personality. He has always been willing to help and answer all of my questions regarding the MCAT, application, and personal statement. He is genuinely just trying to give back to the pre-med community rather than take your money. Often times when I am studying, I lose my motivation and think more pessimistically about my progress than I would like, however meeting with Theo regularly has given me the motivation to push harder and stay positive. He has changed my entire perspective of the exam from something that seemed so daunting to something I can overcome and succeed in.“

I also benefited from Theo’s analytical and tactical approach to addressing the diversity and density of the MCAT. Theo broke every question down to distinguishable question formats based on section and provided tested methods of analyzing not only the passages but the questions themselves via word webs for biology/biochem, umbrella analysis for CARS, etc. I haven’t had a single negative experience with Theo and would recommend him to absolutely anybody.”
