More About Maxwell
Hi! I’m Max and I am very excited to help you along your MCAT journey! I graduated from The Ohio State University studying biomedical science with a minor in creative writing . I am currently a first-year medical school at Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine and am hoping for a career that combines my passions of surgery, pediatrics, and academic medicine. Whether it be tutoring during free periods, helping colleagues pick up their ACT scores, or just being the friend to reach out to with an MCAT question, I have always prioritized and loved watching others succeed.
I have grown up with a family of diverse talents and interests. My older sister Madeline designs for Adidas Originals–yes, she has met Kanye West, Beyonce, and many others. My two younger brothers, Michael and Matthew, each love the more mechanical sides of the world: Michael is an aviation engineering major, and Matthew just finished restoring a 1987 Honda motorcycle. Having grown up in this household, I understand and appreciate the variety of ways in which people can learn. While some revel in repetitive practice, others find more success through demonstrations and practicalities. My goal for you is to find your best strategy to climb this MCAT mountain and emerge victorious on the other side.
My own MCAT journey certainly featured its struggles. Though I loved working on engines, MCAT physics was not so practical, and I drilled misconceptual questions so hard that I began dreaming in force diagrams. I love to read too, but CARS passages on a thousands-year-old painting were closer to putting me to sleep than enlivening me to an author’s perspective. Rather than just hope for physics passages on engine pistons or Hemingway-only CARS, I adjusted, studied, and applied unique routines to approach every question with a positive, conquering attitude. In the end, I gave my best and achieved a score that I am proud of. As I have grown from this experience and those of my students, I am ready to share this ambitious attitude with you as we sublimate struggles into a great MCAT score.
When I’m not studying anatomy or pipetting in my cancer lab, I enjoy working on my car and motorcycle, performing standup comedy, and writing creative nonfiction. Each of these played an essential role in shaking off stress during my MCAT journey, and I’m excited to hear what helps you relax!
Again, I am really excited to begin working with you. I know how stressful and overwhelming this MCAT beast can be at times, and I promise to give you my very best every session. As your brain swells with amino acid knowledge and your scores improve, you will finish this journey knowing you gave it everything you have, and I will be there to make sure you are proud of your score. I look forward to hearing from you!
Hear What Maxwell’s Students are Saying About Him
“Max is a fantastic tutor. He is great at determining the source of confusion that causes someone to miss a problem. He then breaks his explanations down into pieces that make it easy to understand and remember. He is incredibly patient and devoted to his students and helps make learning more enjoyable. Max helped me gain confidence in my abilities to conquer my hardest sections!”
“Max is a wonderful tutor who I would recommend to students at all learning levels. I struggled with physics at times, and Max was good at breaking down complex problems to make them more tangible. He also is great at connecting difficult concepts to real-world applications, which is especially important for doing well on the MCAT. He has a lighthearted personality, is fun to work with, and can honestly answer pretty much any question you have.”
“Max was a fantastic resource during my MCAT preparation, and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for an effective tutor! I cannot thank Max enough for his support and guidance throughout the process!”
“Not only is Max an outstanding tutor, but he is also an all around great guy. Max was patient, easy to talk to, and always had a positive attitude during our tutoring sessions. He was always prepared and explained complex science topics in a clear and concise way, making them much easier to understand. I highly recommend Max to anyone looking to improve their MCAT scores!”
“Max is one of the most patient, understanding people I’ve ever had tutor me. He does an amazing job of distilling complex ideas into simple concepts that I can understand, and when I still don’t understand, he finds a unique way to explain the material to me. Whenever I have a question, Max was always responsive and immediately found time for me, which I am very appreciative of!”
“I was so overwhelmed with the sheer volume that I needed to study to achieve an optimal score on the MCAT. With my current family and work life, I felt like maybe medical school just wasn’t for me if I didn’t have the time to do what needed to be done to do well on the MCAT. However, I still went ahead and I bought the Deluxe Pro Bundle from MCAT Self Prep and still felt like I needed help creating a viable plan of attack that meshed well with my current family life and work life. I knew that I needed someone to come along side me and help me create such a study plan. I browsed the tutors on MCAT Self Prep’s website. For some reason I felt drawn to set up a tutor session with Maxwell and it has been the absolute best decision I have made so far throughout this whole process. Getting guidance from someone who’s walked the walk and not only achieved a great MCAT score but got accepted into an amazing Medical School is just priceless in my opinion. Maxwell helped put my mind at ease and let me know that not only is it possible for me to do well on the MCAT but he made me feel like a worthy candidate for medical school. From there he helped me create the study plan that I had so desperately needed and helped me feel like I am studying effectively and efficiently especially given the fact that, again, I work full time and am married with two small boys. I am confident that with the plan that Maxwell and I laid out that I will crush my goals and put myself in an optimal position to be accepted to the school of my dreams. A huge heartfelt thanks to Maxwell and to MCAT Self Prep for helping me navigate a huge life change!! “
