More About Marie
Hello! My name is Marie and I’m very excited about being your tutor. I remember quite clearly how intimidating the whole MCAT process is, and I especially remember feeling like I had no idea where to begin. Through trial and error and through extensive dedication and time, I have learned a lot about this monster of a test. I am hoping that I can pass on this knowledge as a tutor and that I can be the person that I could have used in my studying process. I look forward to following you through the whole process, making a plan that best suits your needs, and helping you stick to it!
For me, the MCAT was this daunting, overwhelming task I knew nothing about. I spent months asking around and researching on my own on the “best” ways of studying. All I learned from this was that this process can be expensive. There were hundreds of dollars of books to buy, practice exams I had to purchase, and to top it all off, everyone seemed to be recommending courses that would cost a small fortune. Luckily for me, a friend introduced me to MCAT Self Prep. With this website as my trusted guide, I was able to learn more about the test, make a study plan, and most importantly, stay organized and on top of my studies. The introductory module gave me a much needed background on what this test is all about and how to approach it. Then, by following the lessons one by one, I slowly began to feel like I had a grasp on how to study efficiently and effectively. I used MCAT Self Prep until the day of my test, and I can honestly accredit much of my success to it.
Although much of the stress for me was in planning and figuring out how to approach the test, I also know the stress of finding time to study. I was taking 17 credits, playing a club sport and planning for my semester abroad. Although it wasn’t always easy, I found the time to study and having a plan was essential for this. I know how hectic life can be, but I can help you study effectively to fit your busy life, because I had to do this as well.
I love helping students, and I have been an MCAT tutor for nearly 3 years now! I have worked with students in any number of situations, from studying for their fourth attempt of the MCAT, to planning around their multiple jobs and families. Additionally, I have been a volleyball coach for the last five years. This has made me learn the importance of planning practices that will target players’ weaknesses to help them improve and has given me the ability to explain one concept or movement in a variety of different ways. Although slightly different than tutoring, my coaching mentality will help keep things positive even when they are looking grim, and push you past some low points in studying.
A little more about me, I love to play and coach volleyball, hike, and travel. l am currently a first year student at UMass Medical School. I enjoy meeting new people, and I like to think that I am easy to talk to or come to for help.
If you are scared or intimidated by the MCAT, I am here to help! I hope to bring some positivity to this process and lighten your load as much as I can. I am ready to tackle any topics you can bring me, and my favorite subject is organic chemistry, which I know can be one of the tougher points. I look forward to analyzing CARS passages, reviewing some biology, and attacking the hardest of physics problems with you!
I can’t wait to get started with you!
Hear What Marie’s Students are Saying About Her
“Marie was such an excellent tutor! I was stuck on how to proceed with studying in an efficient way and she really helped me to make a plan and execute that plan. Each time I met with her, I learned so much not only about content but also strategy, which is something incredibly important for the MCAT. CARS was my hardest section, but with Marie’s help, I was able to improve my score, something that was not happening studying on my own. She helped me go through each passage step by step and taught me highly valuable techniques for test day. She was always prepared for our sessions, and would always ensure that I understood each topic that I had difficulty with. She was caring, encouraging, intelligent, and very flexible. I was able to improve my score working with her and, if you are looking for a tutor, I highly recommend Marie!“
“I worked with Marie, and she helped me raise my score from a 492 on my first diagnostic exam to a 515 on test day! I could not have done it without her and MCAT Self Prep. The course laid everything out in such an organized way and really helped me develop a study plan. Further, Marie was so encouraging throughout the whole process and did a great job of walking me through answers. I would recommend Marie and MCAT Self Prep to everyone! Thank you!“
“Marie is an exceptional tutor, who I would highly recommend based on her ability to break down difficult concepts. Her ability to understand where I was struggling, and focus in on that, greatly improved my comprehension and preparation, especially in subjects like Organic Chemistry. Marie was very patient and made sure I had a full understanding of a subject before moving on to other topics. I would highly recommend Marie if you are looking for someone who can help you hone your skills and improve your scores.”
“I’ve been studying for the MCAT for a couple years now, with little improvement. I often found myself confused on the material and as a result lost on how to best proceed forward. After working with Marie though I found the material connecting in all new ways, with a clearer path forward on how to accomplish such a daunting task.“
“When I began tutoring with Marie my score was at a 504 and I felt very despondent about myself and my score. I had trouble picking apart questions I was getting wrong and was very frustrated with where I was at. In 5 hours worth of tutoring she helped my score improve to a 511 and increased my self-confidence. She not only helped me understand questions conceptually, but helped me understand where I was going wrong in reading the passages and questions themselves. My only regret is not being able to have more time with her before my exam. I will be taking the MCAT this week and I sincerely hope I will be as good or better than the 511 she helped me achieve. Give Marie her pay raise because she definitely deserves it with how much work she put into preparing my study portal because of how many questions I had for her in each session. Any time something came up in discussion which she was unsure about she would look it up after our session was over and send me the answer later.”
“Prior to my first tutoring session, I was a plastic bag floating in the wind, being blown in all directions. Marie helped ground me and gave me direction for my personal statement. For anyone struggling with their personal statements, I highly recommend getting yourself a tutor. It is a worthwhile investment.“
“I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Marie as my tutor. She is always able to explain concepts that I have trouble with in a way that makes the material easy to understand. Not only is she extremely knowledgeable, but she is also encouraging, patient, and helpful. I would recommend Marie to anyone looking for an MCAT tutor!”
“I was working with Marie and she is an incredible tutor. She was very calm, professional, and available for me. I really liked the way she was making plans and following my progress. I could increase my point up to 10 score. With this experience I am more comfortable to take the exam one more time. She is really my serendipity and I am gonna work with her again.“
“Marie is a very patient tutor and helped me a lot. With her calm and understanding charm she creates an atmosphere that made me feel comfortable asking any question. At any time, she put all her heart into helping me and I could feel how important it was for her to get me to solve the issue. She fostered my learning in a way that I learned how to work the problem by myself. I gained a lot of confidence through her tutoring and improved my learning skills. I am so grateful I had her as my tutor and appreciate everything I have learned from her!”
“Marie has been a supportive and extremely helpful tutor for me. She is able to answer any questions I have in a comprehensive way. Marie has become my most trusted resource when it comes to studying. While studying for the MCAT, I am constantly checking with Marie for clarification and advice and am graced with further insight on the topics as well as positive moral support throughout the process. She provided me with “steps to success” that included timing of studying, resources for practice exams and the most effective topics to focus on. I think Marie makes for an amazing MCAT tutor who can help others reach the best score possible.”
“Marie was an incredible tutor. She has helped me in several subjects (mostly science related) and every time I’ve seen an improvement in my test scores and understanding of the subject. Compared to other tutors, I have found that Marie is really good at breaking things down in a way that is easy to comprehend. She is also very patient and is willing to take the extra time to make sure you understand the subject. I also found Marie to be quite personable which makes the sessions much more enjoyable. She understands the importance of the MCAT and is always fully present when tutoring me. I would recommend her to anyone!”
