More About Cooper
Hey, my name’s Cooper!
I’m currently a first-year student at UMass Medical School, and I’m excited to help you on your own journey to medical school!
My first exposure to medicine was watching my father serve our small, rural town as an emergency room physician. I then spent 3 years volunteering as a collegiate EMT, at which point I knew I wanted to become a physician myself. When I’m not working or studying, I’m probably playing / watching sports (especially basketball) or in the middle of a cribbage game with my fiancée. I’m also a huge history nerd and sang as a tenor in college!
Back when I was preparing for the MCAT, I realized that achieving my goal required a study plan tailored to my own needs as a student. Luckily, while researching how to self-study for such a robust exam, I stumbled upon MCAT Self Prep. I resonated with the practice-heavy approach of CEO Andrew George, and designed my own study schedule that mirrored the Self Prep “boot camp.” Taking practice exam after practice exam and gradually learning from my mistakes, I ended up exceeding my goal by scoring in the 99th percentile!
Needless to say, as a teacher, I believe in practice, practice, and more practice! However, as my basketball coach once told me, “Only perfect practice makes perfect.” Therefore, when helping students study for the MCAT, I stress the importance of a sound, fundamental approach to each question, rather than simple content memorization. During our tutoring sessions, we’ll also focus on identifying and fixing common errors in order to maximize your score.
Achieving your best on the MCAT comes down to a study plan designed around you. Having experienced the value of MCAT Self Prep first-hand, I know we can help you design that plan and accomplish your goals on the exam. I look forward to working with you!
All the best,
Hear What Cooper’s Students are Saying About Him
“Cooper was an incredible help to me while I was preparing for my MCAT! I would confidently recommend him as a tutor to any student. He provided me with practical study strategies that shaped the way I prepared and contributed to my success on the exam. After working with Cooper, I know him to be a great teacher, capable of guiding others through complex and difficult topics in an engaging and enjoyable way. He is kind and encouraging and a great support through the MCAT preparation process.”
“I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to be mentored by Cooper. Not only is he incredibly intelligent with an uncanny ability to spin complex concepts into palatable ones, he exemplifies patience, compassion, and good humor while he does it. There has never been an instance in which he made me feel silly for asking a question, no matter how simple, and I left every interaction with more confidence in myself and objectively greater knowledge due to the way he leads and the attention he pays to everyone who asks him for help. There is not a doubt in my mind that having Cooper as a tutor would drastically improve your MCAT score, as well as provide you with the self-confidence you need to take the test by storm.”
“Cooper is a kind, supportive and all-around amazing tutor that genuinely cares about the success of his students. No matter what, Cooper always made sure that each session matched my own needs and concerns. Specifically, he did an excellent job helping me with the CARS section, slowly working through passages with me until I could eventually solve out passages on my own! Cooper was phenomenal for helping me see massive improvements in CARS, and he helped maintain my confidence all the way until and during test day. I highly recommend Cooper as a tutor for anyone looking to improve their score, especially if they are feeling stuck!”
“Cooper is a fantastic tutor for MCAT prep! Cooper makes connections between different concepts that give you a deeper understanding of the material. He is great for all subjects, and he knows the material so well that he not only explains the concepts very well, but also saves you from common mistakes. He’s easy to talk to, fun to work with, and a great resource that’ll help you do your best on your MCAT!”
“Cooper is a fantastic teacher, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a tutor. He is smart, kind, patient, and great to work with. He can easily understand concepts and articulate them in an easily digestible form, and really makes sure that students understand things. I’ve learned a lot from him about scientific topics and the MCAT specifically. Cooper gives great advice on how to prepare for the MCAT, and definitely will be able to improve anyone’s score.”
“I worked with Cooper a few days before my MCAT and he helped me fine tune certain essential skills for test day. During our session, he helped me with a difficult CARS passage and showed me how to reason through it when I struggled with the answer choices. While I do not have my score back from the exam, I do believe that that session with Cooper helped me calm my nerves. He was also very helpful with reassuring me when I was overwhelmed before my exam, regardless of whether I was a student of his. Cooper truly wants me to do well, and I appreciate what he did for me!”
“Having graduated college almost 8 years ago, you can imagine that recalling my freshman and sophomore year courses would be a challenge. I immediately recognized that my greatest weaknesses were in General Chemistry and Physics, having gotten not-so-stellar grades when I took them in college. Needing help in these subjects for the MCAT, I was referred to Cooper. Cooper took the time to understand where my weaknesses were in these subjects and worked with me to turn them into my strengths. He was very insightful and made sure I left each session feeling confident with the material, all while accommodating my schedule of working a full-time job. If you need help in these or other areas, I would highly recommend Cooper.”
“I have known Cooper for a little over two years, and his willingness to go beyond what is expected to make others feel comfortable and knowledgeable about a subject is unprecedented. He is a disciplined student and a caring, welcoming mentor who answers complex questions with ease and clarity. He also helps you understand the fundamental concepts and the reasoning behind the answers, allowing you to apply the concepts to other situations on your own. Beyond teaching, Cooper is very personable and compassionate to all those around him. He is very jovial and passionate about medicine, and I am very confident that he will be an excellent addition to anyone looking to improve the MCAT studying experience!”
“When I first got my email from Cooper, I could tell by the way he wrote that he was warm, inviting, and excited to help me. During our first meeting, my impressions were confirmed. Cooper spent a lot of time simply listening to me and acknowledging my concerns. Then, we did a few practice questions together where he immediately zeroed in on my weak areas. We developed a sound game plan and I left feeling more confident than before. In the following two weeks, I finished my content review and moved on to practice tests, immediately seeing averages around the 518 mark. We decided that I was in a good spot and instead devoted our time and energy to perfecting my personal statements. He was amazing at that, too! Now, weeks later, I’m done with the MCAT and scored 5 points above my goal – a 520. I also just recently received my first interview invite. I am convinced that without the help from Cooper, my progress would have been significantly slower. He helped me learn tools in both test taking and writing that I will take with me everywhere. Thank you, Cooper!”
