More About Emily
Hi! I’m Emily and I’m so excited to help you on your journey to achieving your dream MCAT score and becoming a doctor! I have extensive experience tutoring students in individual and group settings, and my favorite part is always hearing their stories and coming up with a plan that best maximizes their potential while still allowing for a good work-life balance.
As an undergraduate Global Affairs major at Yale, I only took the required premedical science courses, and I ended up having to teach myself a lot of the information required to perform well on the MCAT from scratch, so I know firsthand how daunting the content and question styles can be. Like MCAT Self Prep recommends, I was able to break my studying into manageable pieces, focusing on high yield information and consolidating information in as many different ways as possible. For the past six months, I have been writing and editing practice questions for MCAT Self Prep, so I remain very familiar with the content map for studying. I would love to share what worked for me and tailor a plan and tutoring sessions to your individual strengths and weaknesses so that we can take your MCAT score to the next level! I especially enjoy helping students with biochemistry – which went from being my worst section to my highest score on test day with diligent practice and a better understanding of how to study the material – and CARS. In another life, I think I would have been a lawyer, and I can teach you my strategies for making reading comprehension a slam dunk!
A little bit more information about me: I’m currently a second-year medical student at the University of Virginia. I ran cross country and track in college, and when I’m not studying, you can find me either hitting the trails in my running shoes, hanging out with my friends, or with my nose in the latest New York Times bestseller. After college, I spent two years as a management consultant, so I know how to develop a strategic roadmap for things like studying. I also mentor premedical student athletes at UVA, and have found that to be a really rewarding experience, just like tutoring! And outside of all that, I am doing research with the cardiothoracic surgery group at UVA on how socioeconomic disparities affect surgical outcomes.
Studying for the MCAT can be stressful and overwhelming, and it is easy to feel lost and alone. But it doesn’t have to be that way – I am ready to be with you every step of the way and support you however possible.

Hear What Emily’s Students are Saying About Her
“Emily has been a tremendous help throughout my journey to medical school. By sharing her study strategies and providing advice on how to balance MCAT studying during busy semesters, I was able to confidently move forward in my preparation and succeed on the exam. Emily is very poised, kind, and patient, qualities that make her a great tutor. I am so thankful to have her as a mentor and role model throughout my journey!”
“Emily is an excellent tutor who always makes students feel calm, supported, and like they are on the right track. She makes sure that students understand not only why the correct answer is correct, but also why other answers are incorrect, so that they will be prepared for different iterations of questions on various topics. If you need someone to help you improve your MCAT score, Emily is a great choice. ”
“Emily was beyond helpful with preparing me for the MCAT! She assured me that everyone’s pre-health experience is unique and that people learn in different ways. Since I know I learn through practice and problem solving, she gave me resources of that nature. It was extremely helpful because I felt heard. The advice I received was tailored to me, who I am as a student, my learning style, and my timeline – she wasn’t just giving me a cookie cutter answer that checked off all the boxes. As I navigate through the (very stressful) pre health process, I know I have Emily as a support system and someone I can look up to!”
“Emily is great not only at teaching difficult abstract science concepts, but also at walking through fundamental reading comprehension and critical analysis skills. She masterfully breaks down ideas into their most basic components so that they are easier to understand. She also creates a positive learning environment characterized by empathy and optimism. I would highly recommend Emily to anyone who is preparing for the MCAT! “
“I have never met someone kinder and better at explaining difficult concepts in an understandable way than Emily. She is always patient and is great at helping students identify their specific needs and developing a teaching approach based on those needs. She uses a socratic method, helping students arrive at an answer on their own rather than just telling them the answer, which is really helpful when it comes to thoroughly understanding and remembering confusing information. She comes with my highest recommendation as an MCAT tutor! ”
