More About Alex
Hey, y’all, I’m Alex, and I can’t wait to help you open doors with your MCAT score! I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2016, where I majored in computer science and completed my medical school prerequisites. When I first started studying for the MCAT, I felt a little bit overwhelmed by the sheer volume of (often-contradictory) advice I found online. MCAT Self Prep helped me develop a healthy irreverence for “conventional” MCAT wisdom. I recognized that I couldn’t rely on others’ advice or accounts of what had worked for them — I would need to become an expert on my own preparation. I encourage you to adopt a similar philosophy. The MCAT is such a uniquely diabolical exam that there are few (if any) universally useful strategies — you need to figure out what works best for you, and I’m here to help you do so!
My tutoring style is individualized and socratic — I like to identify points of confusion for my students, and then ask leading questions to help them bridge gaps for themselves! I’ve spent hundreds of hours tutoring the ACT, Organic Chemistry, Discrete Math, writing, and several computer science classes, and my students have unanimously appreciated my unique ability to “meet them where they are.”
Outside of the MCAT and software worlds, I’m an avid UM/Detroit sports fan (yes, I am a Lions fan, and no, I’m not proud of it). I enjoy anything active and outdoors — running, playing soccer, cycling, hiking — and I recently took up guitar.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to continue to devote time to the people and activities that bring joy and purpose to your life during your MCAT preparation. There’s a pervasive “grind” culture surrounding the MCAT, but I genuinely don’t believe you need to suffer in your preparation to achieve your long-term goals. When you’re living your best life as a doctor in thirty years, you won’t regret foregoing a few hours of studying here and there in favor of something or someone you love.

Hear What Alex’s Students are Saying About Him
“Alex is an excellent tutor who is able to lead a meaningful discussion on a topic covered during a session. Unlike other tutors, Alex emphasized the importance of understanding the fundamental mechanisms behind phenomena instead of merely regurgitating information, which aided me in problem-solving and critical thinking on exams. Alex is receptive to suggestions and, if necessary, willing to quickly implement changes in order to maximize the efficacy of his time with students. He will be an exceptional educator to any medical school applicant who seeks to improve their score.”
“Alex was always engaged and easy to ask questions to, and super helpful to my success. I would like to nominate him for any award you have readily available for instructors. Alex for president.”
“Alex was great at helping me figure out the method to getting the right answer instead of just telling me the answer. He also created a nice, relaxed environment, and was overall a wonderful tutor.”
“Alex is very knowledgeable and created a very comfortable and open learning environment. Best help I have ever received, after trying 6 different sources.”
“Alex was a phenomenal tutor. I’d been dreading organic chemistry since my parents used to tell me the horror stories of how hard it was back in their pre-med days. Alex made it simple. I still remember the first session that he led when he took us through how to draw resonance structures. He taught me not just how to solve the problems, but how to really think about chemistry. I actually looked forward to our meetings because all the confusing and convoluted material would finally make sense once Alex took me through it. His help led me to succeed and I’d highly recommend him for anyone looking to improve their MCAT score.”
“Alex has the ability to encourage others to succeed in his tutoring sessions. I struggled a lot with having a foundational knowledge of chemistry while connecting the new concepts I would learn. Alex adjusted his method for each student, and explained each and every topic in a way that was easy to understand, and made it feel manageable. It’s not often that you find a tutor that not only helps you understand the material, but makes you feel confident about it. He has been a huge blessing, and I am very grateful for his help. I highly recommend him to everyone!”
“Alex was a great tutor, and I would highly recommend him for his ability to articulate the most complex science topics. Working with him, I felt challenged but supported, and always felt that my knowledge was expanded from his explanations of focus topics. Alex facilitated a team based learning experience with a diverse group of students of different levels of understanding. I believe every student believed his study group was a value-added and worthwhile. I would highly recommend him to any student looking for success on the MCAT!”
“When I have trouble understanding a concept, Alex does his best to reword his explanation or slow things down so I can eventually learn. He is extremely respectful and encouraging, and has never once made me feel dumb. Our sessions are dynamic and I don’t feel hesitant to ask questions because he works at your pace instead of giving a lecture. He is genuinely invested in your growth and I 100% recommend him as an MCAT tutor because he is patient, easy-going, and a great teacher.”
“Alex is a dedicated tutor and was prompt, prepared and positive at every session. Even when I felt the impending doom of the exam, he provided calm and reassuring guidance by breaking down concepts in a way that helped me understand. He is flexible in his tutoring technique and often explained ideas with a fresh and varied approach to help myself and my colleagues learn in a way that catered to our learning styles. I would recommend Alex to anyone seeking success on the MCAT!”
“Organic chemistry has a reputation as being very difficult, but I ended up finding it both accomplishable and enjoyable, in no small part due to Alex. He clearly explained complicated mechanisms, and encouraged an understanding of processes rather than memorization. He also utilized multiple formats (drawings, discussions). For me, these skills led to better comprehension and in turn, better scores. I would absolutely recommend him as a tutor for anyone looking to do well on the MCAT.”
